Short answer: published prices for weekly residential pool service in the Pensacola area run from about $200 to $325 a month, and most of the spread comes down to one question. Are chemicals included, or billed on top?
What you're actually buying
A weekly visit is 20 to 30 minutes of labor plus the chemicals it takes to keep the water in range for the next seven days. In a Gulf Coast summer that's a real amount of chlorine and acid. A quote that looks $40 cheaper and bills chemicals separately usually costs more by August, and you won't know what August costs until it arrives.
So the comparison to make is the all-in monthly number for weekly visits, chemicals included. Ours is $240 for a screened pool and $270 for an open pool, and it doesn't move with the season.
What moves the price
- Screened or open. An open pool under trees takes more skimming and more chlorine. That's the single biggest factor in Pensacola, where half the older neighborhoods are under live oaks.
- Size. Most residential pools here are 10,000 to 18,000 gallons. Above about 20,000, or with an attached spa, expect a custom quote.
- Condition on day one. A clear pool starts weekly service immediately. A green one needs a green pool cleanup first, quoted separately.
- Chlorine vs salt. At most companies, including ours, same price. A salt cell makes chlorine, it doesn't balance water, so the visit is the same work.
- Frequency. Every-other-week is fine December through February and cheaper. It is not fine in July, no matter what a price sheet says.
What "cheap" usually means
There are one-truck operators in every metro charging $120 to $150 a month. Some are excellent. The pattern to watch for is a five-minute stop: skim, dump a tablet in, leave. Walls don't get brushed, baskets don't get emptied, and chemistry isn't tested, it's guessed. That's how a "serviced" pool turns green in June, and it's the most common story we hear from new customers.
Two questions separate a real weekly service from a drive-by: Do you brush every visit? and Can I see the readings? If the answer to either is a pause, that's your answer.
What it costs to do it yourself
Honest math: chemicals for a typical pool run somewhere around $40 to $65 a month in season, test strips or a kit another few dollars, and two to three hours a week of your time in the sun. Plenty of people enjoy it. The customers who call us are the ones who stopped enjoying it around the second week of August.
The Pensacola specifics
Three things make weekly service here different from a national price guide. Pollen season turns the water yellow-green in days from late February. Afternoon storms dilute chemistry all summer. And pine straw falls twelve months a year. That's why weekly, not biweekly, is the baseline from March to October, and why the price should be flat: you shouldn't get a bigger bill in the month the pool needed the most help.
